Be who you are, like what you like, and do cool stuff. It’s my personal motto. It’s not a particularly profound “we can change the world” motto, but it’s what I’ve come to believe is a healthy way of thinking about my life. I don’t have a dramatic, hard luck tale to tell. I’ve had a good, if boring, life. Even in the boredom, there is humor and fun. Here are some of the things I like and plan to blog about:
Writing – I plan to use this blog to share my experiences writing, editing, being edited, and publishing. I’ve self-published two books, and I have more in mind. I want to turn this into a really cool hobby. I am hoping to draw attention to my written works through this blog. I am not above shameless self-promotion.
Metal – I am a metal head. I love heavy metal music and I’m not embarrassed about it. I’ve been listening to metal and going to concerts for more than thirty years.
Grilling – I love cooking over coals. Strictly charcoal; no gas grill for me. When the weather warms, I can be found in the backyard, smoking and grilling meats and veggies. I love it deeply and I want to share my lessons, recipes, tips, tricks, and experiments. I will also share information about my favorite beers, because nothing’s better than beer and barbecue.
Management – I am a manager at a state government agency. I’m not the best manager; not by a long shot. But neither am I the worst. I’ve seen the good and the bad and I really feel the need to talk about it.
Running – I am a runner. I’ve run four marathons, a dozen half marathons, and a bunch of 10Ks. I even got to run four blocks with the Olympic Flame in 2002 as it traveled to Salt Lake City. I run about five days a week. It’s part of my identity. It’s easier to run than not. Running has given me many gifts, including a much better understanding of my physical being as well as my emotional and psychological being. I’m not a zealot, but it’s been good to me.
That’s what I’ve got in mind. Thanks for stopping by.
